What is Parawood? Here is the history.

With few exceptions all "Xpress" furniture items are made from Parawood.

Parawood is a high quality imported hardwood, hard as Ash, strong as Maple and is used extensively for furniture production.

Parawood originated in the Amazon Region of South America. During Christopher Columbus's second visit to South America, he noticed the heavy black ball that the natives were using in games. This ball was made from the vegetable gum of the Parawood tree. Later historians would marvel at the substance, which bounced when thrown to the ground. In the 19th Century Henry Wickham transported seeds to England for germination. The resulting seedlings were then taken to the Malay Peninsula for planting, where began the great Rubber Plantations of Malaysia.

After 25 years of latex production, the Parawood tree ceases to produce sufficient quantities of latex. The tree is then harvested and processed  into lumber for fine furniture production and a new tree is planted in its place.

The Parawood story is a true success story of fully utilizing a natural resource, without harming the environment.
